Instrumental Ensembles

Symphonic Band - MUSC 165

Open to all wind and percussion instrumentalists regardless of college major, the Symphonic Band is the larger concert band on the college campus. This Ensemble provides students with the opportunity to rehearse and perform high quality wind and percussion repertoire with emphasis on individual and group musical improvement. The Symphonic Band performs a Fall Concert during the first semester. The year is concluded with the Spring Concert in April.

Wind Ensemble - MUSC 366

The Wind Ensemble is a select group of instrumentalists chosen through an audition process. This music ensemble boasts a smaller instrumentation with normally one player per part. Challenging the more technically advanced instrumentalists, the Wind Ensemble rehearses and performs the most advanced wind and percussion repertoire representing orchestral transcriptions to the music of contemporary composers for the wind band.

Jazz Ensemble - MUSC 166

The Jazz Ensemble provides students with the opportunity to perform a variety of jazz styles from big band to funk and everything in between. Most members of this ensemble are members of the Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble for membership in this organization. Instrumentation used in this ensemble includes the traditional instrumentation of trumpets, trombones, saxophones, piano, percussion, drum set, electric guitar and electric bass.

Chamber Ensembles - MUSC 365

A variety of chamber ensembles provide additional performance opportunities for Marietta College students. These small ensembles are formed to match student interests and available instrumentation.
