After completing a 30 year career as a band director in the State of Ohio, Professor Marshall C. Kimball is serving as Music Department Chairman, and the Director of Bands and Instrumental Activities at Marietta College. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree cum laude in Music Education and a Master of Music from Ohio University. Additional course work has been completed at Ashland University, VanderCook College of Music, Akron University, Illinois State University and Walsh University. He presently is a member of MENC, OMEA, Phi Beta Mu, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha, NEA, OEA, Ohio Private College Instrumental Conductors Association, the Society for Music Teacher Education, and the College Band Directors National Association. Professor Kimball’s duties include: Department Chair duties, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, all instrumental chamber ensembles including brass, woodwind and percussion ensembles, recital attendance, CMENC, applied percussion lessons and all instrumental music education courses in the Music Education degree. He has served on the Technology Advisory Group, the Wellness Committee, the Curriculum Committee, the Reaccreditation Committee for the college with the Higher Learning Commision, and is presently serving as the chairman of the Faculty Development Committee.

In addition to his college responsibilities, Professor Kimball is in demand as a clinician and judge in the State of Ohio and Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, State of Washington, and Oklahoma. He judges solo and ensemble, concert band and marching band competitions. He has served as the State Advisor of the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Conference for the Ohio Music Education Association, as a member of the OMEA Professional Development Conference planning committee and as the state chair for the Music Support Group of the Ohio Music Education Association.

He is an alumnus of Ohio University and has served as the president of the Society of Alumni and Friends of the Ohio University School of Music. As a member of the Ohio Private College Instrumental Conductors Association, Professor Kimball has held two terms as President-Elect and two terms of President. He is currently President-Elect of OPCICA during the 2016-2017 academic year and will serve as President during the 2017-2018 academic year.

Professor Kimball has conducted a research project on “Attitudes Toward Continued Music Ensemble Participation in grades 5-12.” He has presented his research work in at music conferences in Ohio and West Virginia.
